Imparting
the girls skills to build own self protection strategies
On 22nd July 2013, Sakhya Women’s Guidance Cell organized a workshop at Ram Nagar, Thane
in which 17 adolescent girls participated.
The main objective of workshop was to impart a few tips of self defence
to the girls through martial art training. The resource persons, Mr. Rupesh Rathore and Subhash
who are martial art trainers conducted the session.
The resource persons
imparted tricks to the girls on how to save themselves in sexual assault
situations through demonstration on the use of hands and dupatas. The session revolved
around idea of how one can overcome an enemy who is much stronger.
The workshop enabled
the girls to know what to do when they face with sexual assault cases. The
girls were empowered with skills through martial art training to combat in case
of contingency. The girls became vocal and two girls shared her own story how she
had combated when she faced sexual assault situation. One girl shared her friend’s story of sexual
assault while she was returning from college
